Prams are the one piece of baby gear you use every day, in the rain, up kerbs, through supermarket aisles and into a boot. It is everyday equipment, so it has to survive daily life. Doppio Plus

One frame, eighteen configurations. It runs as a single, as a twin for two the same age, as a double for two different ages, and as a travel system with a capsule on top. Seats reverse to face you or face out, lie flat from birth, and carry to 22kg each, which is roughly four years of use.

The chassis is 8.7kg of aluminium with independent suspension and four high density foam core wheels, front ones swivelling and lockable. It folds on two triggers to W62 by L75 by H28cm with a single seat on. The handle adjusts from 97 to 112cm, there is a large shopping basket underneath, and the harness is a magnetic five point, which matters more than it sounds at 7am. The hood is a three section expandable with peek-a-boo ventilation and a UPF 50+ drape.

Add the carrycot for a newborn, the capsule adaptor for a travel system, or the second seat later. It carries a three year warranty.

Air Compact

The travel one. 8.1kg, single hand assisted auto fold with an auto lock and a tether lock, and folded it goes into its own bag at 54 by 48 by 23cm, which sits inside most airlines’ cabin baggage rules. Check with your carrier, because they differ.

Newborn ready with a fully adjustable recline down to lie flat, to 22kg, four high density EVA wheels with swivelling fronts and independent rear suspension, full coverage UPF 50+ sun drape with airflow vents, magnetic five point harness. Open it is 41cm wide, 70cm long and 103cm high with a 105cm handle. Twelve month warranty, or two years if you register it.

Accessories

The bassinet, the bassinet stand, the capsule adaptor, the single to double adaptors, the cup holder, the lambswool harness mate and the preemie head support are all sold separately. These products are how one frame keeps up with a growing family instead of being replaced, and each piece clips to the same chassis.

Choosing a pram

Start with where it has to go, not with the features list.

The boot. Measure it. A pram that does not fit the car you actually own is the most expensive mistake in this category, and folded dimensions are on every product page.
The front door and the lifts you use daily. Inline prams stay narrow. Side by side prams do not.
The terrain. Foam core and EVA tyres with suspension handle footpaths, grass and gravel. Small hard wheels do not.
How often you fly or move between cars. If that is often, weight and fold speed beat everything else.
Whether there is a second child coming. If there might be, a frame that takes a second seat will save you buying twice.

Newborn to toddler in one frame

A newborn needs to lie flat. That means a carrycot, a capsule, or a seat that reclines fully, and all three are available here. From about six months, once your baby can sit unaided, the seat goes upright and stays there until they walk everywhere anyway.

The reason to care about this is money. A pram that only works from six months means a second purchase for the newborn stage, and the two together cost more than one frame that does both.

Travel systems and capsules

A travel system is a pram frame with a car capsule that clicks on top, so you can move a sleeping baby from the car without waking them. Both prams here take a capsule with the right adaptor. If you drive daily, a travel system is the single biggest quality of life difference in the first six months. If you mostly walk, the carrycot is the better buy.
