Developed in response to real-world safety concerns, the babyhood Ergonomic Cot was created to reduce the physical strain of lifting and caring for babies — while maintaining the highest standards of safety and comfort.
Why a specific Cot for the childcare industry?
In mid 2011, Work Safe Victoria discovered carers were suffering from multiple skeletal injuries caused by the repeated manual handling and bending into low cots. Work Safe Victoria proceeded to issue early learning centres infringement notices and required centres to change their cots to a more suitable cot to reduce the injuries caused.
The options for early learning centres were limited to cots that did not meet Australian Standards or metal cots which didn’t meet the comfort and assurance requirements of parents and carers.
The next step
In consultation with various associations including Work Safe Victoria, Kindergarten Parents Victoria (KPV), Good Start Early Learning, Fair Trading Victoria, Fair Trading Queensland and one of Australia’s leading ergonomists Chris Fitzgerald, babyhood set out to create a better solution.
The result was a truly innovative cot — designed to:

• Improve safe access to babies
• Maintain full compliance with Australian safety standards and best practice guidelines
After 14 months of development, the Ergonomic Cot was launched as a patented, design-registered solution — now widely trusted in childcare environments.

No Tipping
Unlike other high profile cots with higher mattress levels, this amazing cot will not tip over during use. It is the only ergonomically designed timber cot to be tested to the tip test in the Australian standard for commercial cots – so it is the safest ergonomic cot available.

Safe Sleeping Practices
When using a babyhood cot we recommend that you follow safe sleeping practices. Whilst we appreciate and respect a parent’s right to make the right choices for their family, there are guidelines recommended by the medical experts for safer sleeping for your babies because we all want happy and healthy bubs.
These guidelines include:
Always sleep baby on their back from birth, not on their tummy or side.
Make sure there are no loose objects or extra linen on your baby’s cot.
Make sure your baby’s mattress is firm and clean.
Lay your baby on a flat and uninclined surface.

Timber is a natural product; that is part of its beauty, so a colour variation, knots in the timber and grain pattern are both natural and to be expected. We do not colour match timber during fabrication as the waste from such practices would be environmentally irresponsible, so you will see some variations in your products. We believe this is what makes our timber products naturally beautiful. These variations are unavoidable as timber is seasonal and will vary between seasons, including the way in which the paint appears on different surfaces. These variations will not be considered manufacturing faults or defects under our warranty.
