Baby Cot Range
A baby cot is the single biggest thing you buy for a nursery, and the one your child spends the most hours in, so it is worth getting right. Every cot here is solid A grade New Zealand plantation timber or European beech, has the babyhood single hand internal drop side, adjusts between two base heights, and is tested at a NATA accredited AFRDI facility to the Australian standard. Most of them convert to a toddler bed, so one purchase covers the first three or four years.
How to choose a baby cot
Four things separate one cot from another once safety is off the table, and safety is off the table here because every cot in this range meets the same standard.
- How long it lasts. A cot that converts to a toddler bed and then a day bed will still be in the room at four. One that stops at the cot stage will not.
- The drop side. Lowering a sleeping baby over a fixed rail is what wrecks your back. A single hand internal drop side means you are not lifting over the top, and the sides still sit high enough to be safe once the base drops.
- The finish. White suits almost any room. English Oak, beech and driftwood read warmer. This is the decision you will look at every day, so take your time on it.
- The footprint. A regular baby cot is around 78cm wide by 150cm long once the castors are on. Measure the room before you fall in love with something. If you live in a unit, or the cot has to share a room, our compact cots are 66cm wide instead.
Finishes and styles
Most of our cots come in White, and White is still what most people choose, because it disappears into a room and lets the bedding and the walls do the talking. English Oak is the other side of that decision. Oak reads warmer, it hides marks better, and it suits a room with timber furniture already in it. The Classic Sleigh comes in both White and English Oak, so if you love the shape but cannot decide on the finish, that is the one to compare side by side.
Beyond White and Oak, the range runs through beech, driftwood and rattan. Style is the part nobody else can decide for you, and since every cot here carries the same testing, buying the one you love is a perfectly good way to choose.

Baby cot safety in Australia
All of our cots are tested by AFRDI, a NATA accredited facility, to AS/NZS 2172, the Australian standard for domestic cots, and comply with the Consumer Goods (Infant Sleep Products) Safety Standard 2024. That is the floor, not the ceiling, and it is worth a quick review of what it covers: gaps between the bars, the depth of the sides, the strength of the base, and the way the drop side latches. Cots have to pass all of it, not most of it.
The key things that make a cot safe at home, in your baby’s room, are simpler than the standard and matter just as much.
- Use the right mattress. The recommended size is on every product page, and a mattress that is too small leaves a gap at the edge or against the sides.
- Drop the base to the lower level the moment your baby can sit unassisted.
- Keep the cot clear. No pillows, no bumpers, no toys, no loose bedding for a young baby.
- Put your baby to sleep on their back, and keep the cot away from curtains, blind cords and heaters.
- Make sure you check the fixings every few months. Cots get shaken.
Cot bedding, mattresses and the rest of the nursery
Buy the mattress with the cot. It is the one thing you cannot substitute, because the recommended dimensions are part of what makes the cot safe. From there, cot bedding is a matter of taste, with the caveat that a young baby does not need any: a firm mattress, a fitted sheet and a sleeping bag is the safest set up.
Most families buy the cot as part of a set with a changer and a chest, then add the feeding chairs and nursing chairs later. If you want the room to hang together, buy the set in one finish and let the soft things carry the colour. Feeding chairs in a matching timber are worth the extra thought if the chair will use the same corner for two years. In a unit or a shared room, a cot with a matching chest of drawers does more for the space than two mismatched pieces of furniture.
It is also worth reading a few reviews before you commit to a finish, because timber colour photographs differently on every screen. A review from someone with the cot in daylight tells you more than the product shot does.

What age should a baby be in a cot?
From birth if you want, though most Australian families start in a bassinet beside the bed and move into a cot somewhere between four and six months, when the bassinet weight limit runs out. At the other end, children move to a bed between two and three and a half, or earlier if they start climbing out.
Is it a cot or a crib?
In Australia it is a cot. Crib is the American word, and in the United Kingdom a crib usually means something smaller, closer to what we would call a bassinet or a Moses basket. If you are reading advice written overseas, that is the translation.
What is the best baby cot in Australia?
